As Nigeria marks Democracy Day 2026, we join millions of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora in celebrating the resilience of our democratic institutions and honoring the sacrifices of the heroes and heroines whose courage secured the freedoms we enjoy today.
Democracy remains more than a system of government; it is a commitment to justice, inclusion, accountability, participation, and the dignity of every citizen. As we commemorate this historic day, we are reminded that the future of our nation depends on our collective resolve to build a peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
We particularly call upon Nigerian youths to rise as ambassadors of peace, innovation, integrity, and positive social impact. The strength of our democracy lies not only in elections but in the active participation of citizens who choose dialogue over division, service over self-interest, and hope over despair.
At MOUFPSD, we believe that every young person possesses the power to transform communities, promote sustainable development, and contribute meaningfully to nation-building. We therefore encourage our youth to remain engaged, informed, productive, and committed to creating solutions that advance peace, social cohesion, and national progress.
As we celebrate 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, let us renew our commitment to unity across ethnic, religious, and political lines. Let us reject violence, hatred, and intolerance, and embrace the values of mutual respect, understanding, and peaceful coexistence.
Together, we can build a Nigeria where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive, where peace prevails, and where sustainable development becomes a reality for all.
“The future of Nigeria is not waiting to be written, it is being shaped today by every act of peace, every voice of hope, and every young person determined to make a positive impact. Together, let us be the generation that transforms possibilities into progress.”
Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria!
